Velira examines writing desk, looking for any notes of significance and checking any drawers. She also looks for any secret compartments or hidden switches.

The desk has two drawers; The left one is unlocked, the right one is locked.
It does not appear to hold any hidden switches or compartments.
The top of the desk has a pile of papers, but they're written in an illegible scrawl. Maybe a secret code? Definitely not the language of magic that scrolls are written in.

Velira shows the top page to Fletcher
"Can't read the papers, could be gibberish, could be in code, it's not arcane writing. I can take these and see if I can decipher anything later, unless you know anyone who's good at that sort of thing." Velira puts the papers in her bag.
"One of these drawers is locked." Velira opens the unlocked drawer and looks inside.

Inside the unlocked drawer are two Magic User scrolls and 5 vials of ink.

"Just scrolls and ink in this one." Velira also bags the scrolls and ink for future reading.
"I can try the crowbar on the second drawer, shouldn't take much pressure if it's not a magical lock."
Velira tries second drawer with crowbar.

The second drawer pops open from the force of the crowbar, bypassing the lock entirely. The tinest sound of breaking glass reveals that it may have been trapped. Thick pink smoke billows forth from the drawer, but in the moments before, it was clear that the drawer held two small books and a wand.

Velira and Fletcher both clamp their mouths tightly and hold their breath, not daring to breathe in the strange smoke. It appears to be clinging to both though, turning their skin bright pinkish-red where ever it touches.

Velira signals to Fletcher for them to exit the room and try to get topside.

She doesn't have to signal twice; Fletcher heads up the stairs and out into the main hut, waiting for Velira to join him.

Fletcher and Velira both escape to the surface without inhaling any of the strange gas. They now find themselves in the foul-smelling kitchen, with their exposed skin colored a reddish-pink.

Velira takes a deep breath of the air, and coughs lightly at the stink. "Sorry about the trap. Let's wait for that to air out a bit. Before whatever that pink stuff was got too dense, I saw at least 2 books in the drawer, could be diaries or some such, and a wand."
Velira looks down at her skin, "Do you think we should try and wash this off, or does it look like this is the worst of it?"

(OOC: Does Fletcher recognize this substance as anything he's encountered in his years on the job-- such as a naturally made poison? Basically, he's trying to figure out if he recognizes the composition. For example, whether it will turn sticky like flour if they try to wash it off instead of wiping it off, and so on.)

It's unfamiliar to Fletcher, but the pink smoke basically screams "magical"
It doesn't appear to be doing anything further to Velira and Fletcher. No itching, no burning, etc.

Fletcher lifts his free hand, examining the bright pink stuff on his skin, and sniffs it lightly.
"Doesn't seem natural, whatever it is. I guess if it was going to kill us, we'd be dead." As to retrieving the stuff below, he shrugs; his headache has faded, but he has an aversion to the tunnel. "Not much else to get, down there. You go ahead; once you're out, I'll drain the cask. We might want to let the liquid and the body dry out before trying to inter it."

"If you're not wanting to explore the tunnel today, that's OK. Perhaps we should find a way to seal the place down, even temprarily, wouldn't want anyone to stumble into it blindly, or anything coming up into town unknowingly I'd think.
Definitely agree we need to let that body dry out, plus there could always be something else in that cask underneath.
Once the smoke clears out, I'll get the books and do a quick check of the shelves while you start on the cask.
Should we try and get the cask out of the cellar first, or deal with it inside? And let's wait out in the main room, this kitchen stinks."
