Father,
I hope this letter finds you well. I made it to a town in the south called Sweetgrove a few weeks ago. I decided that the best way to both use the skills and principles I learned from you and make a living after the my years of service, was to join the local Adventurer's Guild.
I went on my first mission a few days ago, and what an eclectic group of guild members it was. I partnered with an elf, a ranger, a mage, a halfling, a bounty hunter, and even an ogre king if you can believe it. As random as the group seems, we worked well together. Though the halfling kept finding himself on the brink of death, we all made it out of our first outing alive, even after a run in with a few ghouls, a rather large, unfriendly spider, and a starving worm.
I will write again soon with more about my travels.

Dear Father,
We went out again today to the same dungeon I wrote you about, though to great protests from our mage. Unfortunately, the halfling and ranger were out of town and we had to proceed without them. I will tell you this, I felt much safer last time knowing that I had a keen eyed ranger shooting over my shoulder when I needed him. Luckily, we all made it out alive, though not in the best of shape.
I also witnessed in action one of the lessons you always tried to hammer into my head, "Fail to protect your subordinates and you will soon find that you have no subordinates to protect." Our elf lost one of her men today. He felt that he was no longer safe with us and ran. Some lessons are easier to learn through experience and this is one that I shall never forget should I ever find myself leading others.
I hope all is well at home. How is Belros? Is my brother still serving in the scouting parties?

Dear Father,
Our latest mission was to take care of a few goblins that have been terrorized some of the local farmers. I know, I know. "Goblins are like rats; a horrible pest, but hardly a challenge". And in most cases I would agree with you, but we almost didn't make it out of this one alive. There was one goblin in particular that was a demon worshipping shaman. We took him out pretty quickly. Actually, a new comer killed the goblin in one fell swoop of his staff. The problem came when our over-eager ogre destroyed the altar that the shaman had been using.
A portal opened up to the pits of hell and a frog-like demon stepped out of it. Between a few lucky spells and strikes from the elf, the ogre, and myself, we managed to bring the beast down before it would summon any reinforcements. For awhile there, I really thought that I had written my last letter and that you and mother might never find out what happened. I'm lucky to be traveling with the group I am or I may not have made it out of there alive.
