Fletcher enters the store carrying a simple book that appears to be missing several pages, looking a little wary of it and holding it at arm's length. He's not certain he's at the right store, but the sign seems to imply he's in the right place. Additionally, he's not sure whether Alice or Pansy will be in.
"Alice?"

Pansy, wearing a bright yellow robe waves excitedly, "Hello, Fletcher! I'm in charge right now, because Alice isn't. I haven't seen her since the morning, so she might be out on errands or maybe she's just sleeping still! Did you want to buy some potions?"

Slightly taken aback by her exuberant greeting, Fletcher frowns, evidently disappointed to miss the chance to see Alice. "Oh; good afternoon, Miss Pansy."
He seems to approve of the yellow robes with a nod.
"I suppose I could; what do you have?"

"Alice left some curing potions, invisibility potions and haste potions to sell for her!"

He looks a little unsure, and reluctantly sets the book down on the counter so his hands are free. "How much for a haste potion?"

Pansy beams, "300 shiny gold coins! I'd think we should charge less for a friend like you, Mister Fletcher, but Alice said that everyone gets charged the same!"

[OOC: Fletcher's Journal, Dantalis's tales or Alice Carroll's summary can pick up where this scene left off; in summary, Alice and Dantalis arrived, Dantalis and Fletcher purchased a haste potion each, Dantalis purchased several healing potions and a strange scarred man with Tourette's syndrome arrived and purchased some as well. Then they all left for quite some time, which doubtless made Pansy sad, since she misses going outside with Alice, like she did when she was a wardog.
Anyway, thus ended this part of that adventure.]

After their return to town, Fletcher has been scarce; he visits the apothecary again after another day or two has passed, however, again with the book, this time when he knows the shop has just opened.
He opens the door, looming there a second while his eyes adjust to the dusk of indoors versus bright midmorning outside.

Alice pokes her head into the room, bleary eyed, yawning, glowing pendant dangling from her neck. "I told you, the speed potions aren't really coff - oh, hello Fletcher!"
She steps into the room, closing the door she came through behind her. Her hands flutter briefly, uncharacteristically to her hair, as if she were suddenly self conscious, then she regains her carefree composure. "I haven't seen you lately. You're not just here to buy potions, are you?"

Nodding slightly in silent greeting, he isn't quite able to hide a small smile as Alice fixes her hair. "Good morning, Alice."
Still, her question seems to draw him further into the store. He holds out a small, simple looking book that appears to be missing several pages in the middle, and offers it to her. "I'm not. I wanted to ask you about this."

Alice takes the book, joking "Is this your spellbook?" She flips through pages, skimming bits here and there, lingering around an ink stained page, then shuts it.
"This is... Have you been reading this?"

He watches her, seeming mystified by the ease with which she flips through it. When she asks if he's been reading it, he scowls slightly, rubbing at the bridge of his nose.
"I can't; I tried, thought it was trapped." He still thinks it might be. Maybe only magic users can use it?

"You can't? Oh, yes, ah..." she scratches her nose. "Probably cursed or something. I can look into it, if you want to leave it here. One thing is certain," an edge creeps into her voice, "I don't think you should try to read it, for now."

Relief briefly touches his eyes, and he carefully averts them from the book, seeming to take her judgment very much at face value.
"I'm not eager to try again, to be honest. If it has any use to you as an apothecary, you can keep it." The unspoken suggestion seems to be, if you can't think of any use for it, might as well get rid of it.
However, with his purpose taken care of he now seems at a loss. After an awkwardly long silence, he adds, hesitantly, "Thank you, by the by."

"What, for taking care of the book? Or, for something else?" She leands forward slightly, grinning.
