*Avarice walks into Guildmaster Pierre's office and closes the door behind him. He tower's above the seated Guildmaster, fixing him with a meaningful stare prior to beginning his negotiation.
"I trust that you've heard of the recent developments in town regarding the collection of bounties paid by the Town Council? I propose that we form a Guild to oversee the Bounty Hunter's who plan on collecting these bounties. I have quite a business plan, actually... including a 15% share of the profits to the Guildmaster who lends me the assistance I need. I expect to make profits of 600 GP initially, and then up to 100 GP a week. That would be 90 GP to you within the first week, and then 10 GP every week at the least. I'm sure you can see the benefit to this. It needs to happen TODAY. I'm leaving to meet your appraiser at the fortress ruins I discovered a couple of days ago to see how that venture is coming along, so I expect everything to be taken care of by the time that I get back. Can you make it happen?"

Guildmaster Pierre raises an eyebrow, "I haven't the faintest clue what you need from me, but if you figure it out, I'll think it over. The pittance you just described is nothing compared to what a mine could bring in, so just go meet the appraiser and then we'll talk later of this," he shudders, "Ear selling business. You have all the resources you need to start calling yourself a Guild and demanding things of people, from what I've seen."

Avarice shakes his head. " All I need from you is to deliver these paers requesting the official recognition of the Town Council, so that I don't have to worry about others going straight to the Council and bypassing the Guild. It shouldn't take more effort than delivering the request. And yes, at this time it's a pittance... but it's all based on the number of Bounty Hunter's active during each week. Individuals rally around organizations and power. Yes, I could attempt to force everyone into doing this without official mandate, but with it I don't have to worry about being accused of a list of offenses... especially with my current standing in certain people's eyes. I would prefer to handle this legitimately, and with a token guesture on your part it's easily accomplished. If you don't want a cut, then I'll just pay you for the trouble of legitimizing it with the Council. I leave that to your discretion."

Pierre looks nonplussed, "The sort of people that enjoy hunting for bounties would not be welcome in the Guild House, so I can't help you with that. Your presence makes the merchants and artisans who rest here uncomfortable as it is. To bring in another half dozen bounty hunters would spell disaster!" He shrugs, "Anyway, you don't need me to claim to start a guild. Just put up advertisements everywhere like that McGinty individual, maybe throw in a free backpack or some such. If you're worried that would-be bounty hunters will go straight to the town council, you should work that out with them directly. Chances are, they'd allow that even with a 'guild.'"

Avarice smolders, however he understands that this conversation won't be going anywhere... "Fine, Pierre. Thank you for your wise council in this matter. I'll try not to cause too much of a scene on my way out." Avarice leaves the guildhouse, lost in thought. He makes every effort to stare down anyone who meets his eyes, flashing a fanged smile at anyone who stares too long. He exits the building, pondering the avenues available to him at this point.

*upon arriving back to the town, Avarice stops by to let Pierre know about the events at the mine.
"Pierre, the mining operation will have to be put on hold until such a time as the location is safe for appraisal. It is still quite infested with various monstrous rabble, unfortunately. The man that I met there to appraise the mine was injured by one such creature - strangely, he ventured into the caves before I arrived. In any case, I sent him back to town as I went into the ruins in order to evaluate the safety of the area. On my way back to town, I happened upon the poor man's body. Apparently the blade the creature wounded him with was tainted with a poison of some sort. I brought the body back to town, along with the horse he was riding. I've already given my synopsis to Captain Thran, but I figured you would want to know as well, seeing as this affects the timeline the mines will be operational within." Avarice begins to walk away from Pierre's desk, but stops before he reaches the door. "My condolenses for your associate."
Avarice leaves the Guildmaster's office, heading towards the blacksmith's shop to inquire about another possible business venture.

*Avarice visits Guildmaster Pierre, intent on discovering what history, if any, is attached to the dagger found on the Troglodyte within the ruins.
"Guildmaster, I've some questions for you regarding the slain appraiser whose body I brought back to town. I trust that you've dealt with him previously? From where does he hail?

"Hmm, well, as I recall, he came from Foundry City as part of a large, well-armed caravan. He stayed on for some odd jobs, but then wasn't able to get back home due to the dangers of the western road. He was going to try heading north and traveling through the much safer roads of the Kingdom but he needed money for the expedition, so I hired him. A shame, what happened to him."

"Yes, quite. Thanks for the information. Now then, it's been over a week, Pierre... tell me that you've gleaned some information in regards to the map that I'm looking for. It can't be that difficult to a man with your contacts to find something of that nature, right? After all, that's what makes you valuable to so many people in this town. What do you have for me?"

"Map? What map? I'm afraid you'll have to remind me, because I'm incredibly busy and can't be expected to remember every single thing that crosses my desk, Avarice."

"The map for which I supplied you the Statuette of Telchur, and a bag of small agates, my dear Pierre. The one that I humbly requested you find showing the locations of any known Bael Turathi ruins/strongholds/cities in this region, especially if their mentions included information on the discovery of powerful Bael Turathi relics. Does that help you recall our agreement? Come now, I know that you've a lot on your mind but I'd hoped that I'd made a more lasting impression on you that night, to be honest.... I'll put more effort into it next time."

Pierre harumphs, "Now I recall. What you ask for has been exceptionally difficult to find, but I believe I have something. It's not a map, but a tidbit of information. A rumor, if you will. Supposedly, ruins similar to the ones you've described have been seen in the desert far to the south. It's a long journey to go on a simple rumor, though, and if you're smart, Avarice, like I believe you to be, you won't go." Pierre frowns thoughtfully, "Ask your friend McGinty, no one's ever come back from that desert."

Avarice's eyes twinkle at the news. "Thank you for what you've found out so far. I'll check back with you in a few days... I trust you'll continue to inquire?"
