(Had this floating around on my computer for months, sorry for not posting it sooner!)
Can I Leave the Adventurer's Guild?
The game's default assumption that everyone is in the Adventurer's Guild is mostly for party cohesion. A character can feel free to leave the Adventurer's Guild at any time, and still be part of the game. "Member of the Adventurer's Guild" is just a title and isn't particularly important, it's just something I use to get the party together at the very beginning. Leaving the Adventurer's Guild could lead to player characters and certain NPCs mistrusting the character, but it will also lead to other NPCs trusting the character more.
What If Player's Don't Trust My Character?
Situations that create serious mistrust will lead to their realistic consequences. If a character did something that made the entire party not trust him or her, then they wouldn't take that person along on an expedition. This would most likely translate to that player having to create a new character for the session. Basically, you have to play nice with others "in the open" so that they're willing to work with you. The advantage here is two-fold. One, everyone has a lot more fun in a teamwork driven game, and two, you continue to have regular allies that will help you gain experience and make money.
Can I Kill Another Player Character?
Yes, but only if EVERYONE involved is okay with it. The best way to do this is to essentially script out the way it'll go down with the other player and then execute the plan. This is the best way to insure there are no hurt feelings, believe me!
Can I Be Killed For Being Extremely Chaotic or Evil?
Yes times a hundred. Playing such a character is one of the quickest ways to recognition/infamy/etc, but if you go too far, you may be killed by one of many NPC factions in the game you will no doubt upset by doing your biz. In some cases, this will be a temporary set back, but in other cases, not so much.
And as always, remember, this does not prevent roleplaying any type of character that you want, just remember to keep the other players at the table in mind. Everyone's there to have fun!
