The envelope is sealed with a blob of unmarked wax. Inside is a letter and a vial filled with crimson powder.
Guildmaster Avarice,
Certain friends of mine would like to sell certain collections of theirs and wish a facilitator to handle these transactions. If such an arrangement is to your liking, please drop this powder into the town's fountain.
A stylized T graces the bottom of the page.

Avarice finishes reading the cryptic message for the third time. The arrangement sounds lucrative, but could also put him under the thumb of an unknown power in town. After deliberating for most of the night, he makes his decision.
Avarice takes the vial and finds the nearest water troph. Interested in the potential affects this mystery powder may have, he sprinkles a small amount into the troph and observes the horse as it ingests the water afterwards.

The powder turns the water red, something Avarice notices on close examination, but it's too dark for people to notice at the moment.
The horse nearest to the water takes multiple drinks, not seeming to care about the water's color. Observing the horse reveals no difference in behavior or movements. It appears as healthy as ever.

Based on his little experiment, Avarice is convinced that there's no ulterior motive at play here. He makes his way to the town's fountain, taking extra care to not be noticed in the act. Once sure that noone is paying attention, he drops the powder in the water. After that he heads to the nearest vantage point, with the intent to see who, if anyone, comes to observe the signal.

The fountain turns red and townsfolk reactions range from horrified to curious. After some time, a couple townsfolk bring two of the Watch Guards to the fountain.
The two watch guards, a sturdy-looking, tall woman, and a slender man seem to be asking people questions, trying to figure out what happened. After an hour has passed, the water begins to dim in color, and after two hours, there's no trace that the water ever was red.

Avarice slinks down off of the roof and heads back to McGinty's, waiting for the next contact from "T".
